The DIT303B NDT automatic drop weight impact testing machine is mainly used to determine the non-plastic transition temperature of ferritic steel (including plates, profiles, cast steel and wrought steel).The non-plastic transition temperature is characterized by the maximum temperature of the brittle steel in the dynamic loading yield stress.The test method is to raise the hammer body of a certain quality to a certain height and then release it from rest, and the hammer free fall hits the surface of the sample, so as to dynamically load the sample.The test machine combines machine, electricity and automatic control technology to realize the whole automation of feeding, lifting hammer, impact, sample and hammer.In addition, the test machine has many protective measures, which greatly improve the safety of operators and equipment.The machine is a testing instrument commonly used by enterprises and research institutes such as small steel mills and iron and steel research institutes.

The fracture-strength transitions of ferritic steels used in the notched condition are markedly affected by temperature. For a given “low” temperature, the size and acuity of the flaw (notch) determines the stress level required for initiation of brittle fracture. 

1.1 This test method covers the determination of the nil-ductility transition (NDT) temperature of ferritic steels, 5/8 in. (15.9 mm) and thicker.

1.2 This test method may be used whenever the inquiry, contract, order, or specification states that the steels are subject to fracture toughness requirements as determined by the drop-weight test.

1.3 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regarded as the standard.

1.4 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.
